Update of the General Agreement between the OECD and the ILO

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have recently updated their agreement. The first signature of this agreement took place in 1961. Its aim is to coordinate their activities and to share their industry expertise.

This event is significant. It embodies progress towards a greater coherence between the missions of major international institutions as the latter become more globalized and mandates are increasingly interdependent.

For Vigeo, this is especially important as the OECD and the ILO are the only two international institutions in which employers’ and workers’ organizations sit alongside governments. Since 1976-1977, both organizations have also adopted recommendations and guidelines to the attention of multinational companies.

Vigeo has, since its inception in 2002, included the ILO Tripartite Declaration (1977) and the OECD Guidelines (1976) in its reference systems for assessing corporate social responsibility.
