A Scientific Council contributes to the independence and professionalism of the company. It defines and also ensures respect for the code of ethics. Finally, it provides scientific orientation to the company methodology.

In this capacity, it is responsible for:

  • examining the principles and rules of the methodologies applied to the different products before they are marketed.
  • ensuring the scientific surveillance of the company notation activity, and, in particular, respect for the application of the methodology.  If, at the end of the investigations, the Board is of the opinion that the notation has not been established in conformity with the fixed rules, and that this raises a problem of principle with regards to the activity and methodology of the agency, it may, after consultation with the Chairperson of the company, draw up an opinion accompanied by suggestions for improvement.
  • formulating a proposal of settlement in the event of dispute between a company under review and the Vigeo Group, relating to the methodology used. This proposal takes the form of an opinion.

In 2005 and 2006, the Board examined the fundamental methodologies and products of the Equitics range of products and services. It drew up critical opinions and recommendations on the methods of processing of the information, argumentation and the presentation of reports.

The Board studied cases of precise deliverables through which it identified potential for improvement of the quality assurance rules. All the recommendations of the Board have been implemented.

The Board consists of:

  • Chairman: Aldo Cardoso, Senior lecturer at the IEP Paris, author of Anarchie Libérale (‘Liberal Anarchy’) and director of several companies
  • Halina Ward, Director of the Corporate Responsibility for Environment and Development Programme and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) in London
  • Professor Henri-Claude de Bettignies, Professor of Management at the INSEAD and at Stanford University (California), Founder of the Euro-Asia Centre at the INSEAD, Founder and Director of the CEDRE (Centre pour l'Étude  du Développement de la Responsabilité)
  • Professor Kirk O. Hanson, Executive Director of the Markula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University (California)
  • Professor Craig Smith, London Business School
