The Ethibel Sustainable Indices (ESI) supply an overall perspective of the financial performance of the major world companies in terms of sustainable development. The composition of the ESI indices is based upon the ethical investment register of Forum Ethibel: the Excellence Register. Forum Ethibel's classification

- weapons,
- gambling,
- and tobacco.
Furthermore, particular attention is paid to companies whose activities are linked to:
- alcohol,
- chemicals,
- genetic engineering,
- pornography,
- and animal experiments.
These Register contains values that have been selected by Forum Ethibel, based on Vigeo research data, and determines the Ethibel Excellence Index (Europe and Global).
This index lists the pioneering companies as well as those whose performance is rated within the average of the sector, and which meet the financial criteria of the methodological rule book.
The base value of the indices was fixed at 1,000 on 31 December 1997. The indices are reviewed every semester and their constituents are archived in the Ethibel Investment Register.
